The City has started a major initiative, stemming from the work Cam began on youth violence prevention in 2007, with the resolution declaring youth violence a public health crisis. The City and public schools have launched 1-800-SPEAK-UP, a new youth hotline that youth can use to report (completely confidentially, via voice or text) weapons possession or threats.
This is just one of the City's strategies that have together helped create a 37% reduction in juvenile violent crime since 2007.
